Part 4 is about Sea Life Park, home of the famed (?) wolphin, and the Kailua coast, home of Barack Obama's winter vacation. While reading, ponder the question: are we training the dolphins, or are they training us?
Joanne's sister, Jen, suggested we visit Sea Life Park, Oahu's small version of Sea World. Because her husband works at Sea Life Park as an artist, we got discounted tickets. If you'd like your name painted with island-flavor letters, take a peek at his website, Rainbow Signatures.
So at the dolphin show, the trainers said a few words about their training theory, which boils down to positive reward -- fish -- for desired behaviors. The show went a lot like this. The trainer would do their arm gesture, which reminded me of a pokemon trainer, i.e., DOLPHIN, GO!
Then the dolphin would shake its head. [I think not]
Dolphin, I CHOOSE YOU!
Dolphin shakes head. [You first]
Trainer reaches into pucket and throws dolphin a fish.
Dolphin, GO!
Dolphin thinks for a second... and does a flip.
Dolphin gets another fish.
