Death Valley National Park

Loading...

Still on that switch weekend, so my goal tonight is to actually catch up with posting photos.  This is made possible not because I have time to post but really because I've been too busy this year to do any real photography, resulting in very few good photos this year.

This post is on Death Valley National Park, which my brother William and I took in last year in a whirlwind drive up there from LA during Thanksgiving.  It is a really severe landscape, with a lot of high-contrast light.  I've tried to give some of that flavor to the photos during post, so that the images almost look like they could have been taken on Mars.  Most of my memories of the trip are a little funky: (1) subsisting on salami sandwiches, many gallons of water, and packets of vanilla-flavored Starbucks Via shaken in bottles of water; (2) driving huge distances to the sound of Ira Glass and the This American Life podcast; (3) repeatedly running into many young couples who were composed of white men driving large pickups and attractive and apparently delighted Asian women incongruously clothed in dresses and heels; and (4) constantly worrying that we would blow a tire on the rocky dirt roads and be stranded in the middle of the desert with nothing but said salami and Via.
