Shikha and Gaurav - Engagement

Loading...

I'm catching up on events which happened recently but predate this blog.  My friends Gaurav and Shikha got engaged recently and celebrated at Gaurav's family home in Maryland.  Evgeniy and I drove down together, to the tune of successive NPR stations and the ATLS manual.

Gaurav and Shikha's story is fantastic. The summer between our first and second years, Gaurav came in, breathless, and announced that he had met this wonderful person on the T.  It must have been something; Gaurav is not well-known for his game, particularly in cramped, time-critical situations (at least not to me).  As it happens, that summer he and I had been sailing together pretty much on a weekly basis, trying to push our limits with faster turns in the Tech Dinghy.  He said he wanted to take this girl out on the Charles in one of the dinghys, which sounded like a nice and romantic sort of idea.

Fast forward a day or two.  Apparently he tried to impress said girl by leaning out a little further than he might have intended, and next thing he knew had rolled off the boat and into the water.  The boat, with its precious cargo of girl-who-has-never-sailed, continued on its original course to the dismay of all concerned.  After several attempts to shout instructions, Gaurav was able to swim over to the boat and climb back on board.  I can only imagine how much that listed the dinghy, and how much panic may or may not have ensued.  He spends the rest of the date dripping wet and smelling of Charles.

There must have been something about that smell, or that incident in general.
