Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park

Another interview, this time at the great University of Colorado.

From a photography angle, this trip was challenging. The area had just gotten some heavy rain storms and the sky was generally overcast, and only rarely showing the post-storm dramatic lighting. Or perhaps this was taking place, just not where I was, or it took place while I was answering questions on panel interviews.

RMNP and the Front Range might be intrinsically challenging as well. The vista from the plains is that of a series of low mountains with a row of 14,000 ft peaks in the background, constituting the continental divide. This is dramatic in person but doesn't come out in photos. Part of the reason I think is that the really dramatic 14k peaks are hidden by lower peaks, and from Denver are still dozens of miles away. So you don't get this effect of huge peaks rising up from flat ground. By contrast, other areas of the Rockies (e.g., Grand Teton) have flat areas and the range rising up from just a few miles away.

The issue must be that I haven't found the right areas to visit. I'm told the Maroon Bells near Aspen have these characteristics. There's a famous lung conference there every year - perhaps that opportunity is to come.
