Eastern Sierra Nevada: Mono Lake

It was snowing so much when we got to the Mono Lake NPS visitor's center that the Lake wasn't visible at all - just whiteout. So we hung out there for about an hour watching videos of natives filtering out sandfly larvae from the water and eating their dried husks. That wasn't too appetizing. Then we thought, we're so close to the South Tufa viewing area that we might as well drive the 10 or so miles and see what it looked like. Fortunately the snow let up just enough to see the tufas - and ended up making for a fairly stark landscape where a partially clearing winter storm and the lake merge into a gray gradient broken by a few ripples and the tufa.
